PC Configuration Requirements

 

To take RFID Essentials, you must configure your PC and connectivity according to the following requirements below.

On the course registration or sign-in page, we provide a utility indicating whether your system conforms to these requirements. However, due to the continuous introduction of new software, we cannot guarantee that this utility is 100% accurate.

To help you with any configuration changes you need to make, we have provided below some instructions. Here again, due to the continuous introduction of new software, we cannot guarantee that these instructions are 100% up to date.

1.

Compatible browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 or higher; Firefox version 1.5 or higher; and Google Chrome.  Safari for MacIntosh is not supported.     

If you are using Internet Explorer 10 or above, you need to make sure it is in "compatibility mode."  If unsure how to do that, consult the Microsoft website.

Internet connection: At least a 56K modem connection; broadband connection recommended.

To check the speed of your Internet connection, you can go to one of numerous websites available for this. One is at http://pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp.

Adobe Flash Player: Version 7.0 or higher

To download the latest Flash, go to:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/

Display resolution: Set to 1024 x 768 or greater

Pop-ups, cookies, and javascript must be ENABLED.

You must not only disable any pop-up blocker operating in your browser, but also pop-up blockers external to your browser. These may be operating in toolbars, such as Google Toolbar or Yahoo Toolbar or possibly in your anti-virus or anti-spyware software. More information on disabling your pop-up blockers

Popup Blockers

In order to take RFID Essentials Course 1, “Introduction to RFID”, you must disable all pop-up blockers operating on your PC, or you can add the course website to your pop-up blocker exceptions list: www.rfidessentals.net To turn off the popup blocker: Select the name of your pop-up blocker or blockers below for instructions on how to disable them:

Select Tools / Options, switch to Content Tab, un-check "Block pop-up windows"

Navigate to http://www.rfidessentials.net from your browser. Click the Google Pop-up Blocker toolbar icon. The Google toolbar will remember to allow Pop-ups from www.rfidessentials.net and the icon will change to reflect that pop-ups are OK.

Click the Pop-Up Blocker toolbar icon.

Look at the "Enable Pop-Up Blocker" line. Un-check Pop-Up Blocker (you can also tell by the toolbar icon. It's yellow if enabled, and gray if disabled.)

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Select Delete Cookies.
  4. Select OK when you are asked "Delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet File folder?"
  5. Select Clear History.
  6. Select Yes when you are asked "Are you sure you want Windows to delete your history of visited Web sites?"
  7. Select OK.

STEP 2
2006/2005 version of Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiSpam

  1. In the main window, on the left side click Norton AntiSpam.
  2. Select Ad Blocking, and then click Turn Off.
  3. Select Pop-up Blocking, and then click Turn Off.

2004 or earlier version of Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiSpam

  1. In the main window, double-click Ad Blocking.
  2. Uncheck Ad Blocking.
  3. Uncheck Pop-up Window Blocking.
  4. Select OK.

To disable pop-up blocking, right-click the web page, point to McAfee Pop-Up Blocker, and deselect Enable Pop-up Blocker.

To add www.rfidessentials.net into pop-up blocker exceptions list:

Select the name of your browser below for instructions.

Tools -> Pop-up Blocker -> Pop-up Blocker Settings
Type in "www.rfidessentials.net" into "Address of website to allow" field, then click Add button.
Click Close

Tools -> Options, switch to Content Tab, click Exceptions button on the right of "Block pop-up windows" option.
Type in "www.rfidessentials.net" into "Address of web site" field, then click Allow button

The easiest way to reset the settings back to default level, to do so:
Tools -> Internet Options -> Click Security Tab -> Click Default level button -> Click Reset all zones to default level button if it is available.
Tools -> Internet Options -> Click Privacy Tab -> Click default button

Tools -> Options, switch to Privacy Tab, Check "Accept cookies from sites", and select "Keep until they expire"
